Father's Day Picks - Gifts For Dad
Fathers may put up a tough front but deep down they are sensitive and appreciate a fine gesture, especially on Father’s Day. For this reason, we’ve curated a list of fine wines and spirits that you can give to Dad on his special day. Fathers enjoy family time and what better way to share in the festivities of this special day than enjoying a fine wine or spirit with him. Let’s start the party!
OUR PICKS
Does dad enjoy a martini to start off the evening? Then let's look at the Minke Gin from the Emerald Isle, Ireland. Inspired by the Minke whale, this Gin has a distinct citrus and anise flavour profile. Rated as best in category at the American Distilling competition, this fresh gin makes an excellent martini with olives or twist. As a long drink, try a classic Gin & Tonic. Now that’s the way to get into the mood.
CLONAKILTY
MINKE IRISH GIN
Best in Category,
2019 American Distilling Competition
Inspired by the Minke whales that swim wild off the Atlantic Ocean coastline, this gin uses a special botanical from that same local coastline - Rock Samphire - which gives Minke gin its distinct citrus and anise profile. The base of the spirit is made of whey from their local farms.
Having a barbeque this Father’s Day? How about a great little Spanish red that opens with red berry and cherry aromas then dances with fresh fruity flavours, a touch of spice and soft finish. What better way to complement that quarter pound burger and Louisiana ribs!
Celler de Capçanes
Mas Donis 2017
90 Points, WineScores
The nose of this Spanish red is quite aromatic with bright cherry, red berries, violet and a hint of spice. The palate is medium-bodied and complex with ripe fruits, vanilla and star anise, accompanied by soft, fine tannins. Pair this with grilled chicken, barbecued meats and fresh salads.
Perhaps Dad likes the finer things in life and prefers to dine indoors in a classic family setting. Then we need to move into elegance, style and class. Is this your Dad? Treat him to a Nebbiolo from Northern Italy. This is the grape that makes the great Barolos and Barbarescos but today we are suggesting an affordable alternative. The Langhe Nebbiolo is about elegance, red berries, floral notes and raspberry compote. It’s smooth and works magic with veal scoloppine, pork loin and any fine dinner meat dishes. If he’s vegetarian, why not eggplant parmigiana!
PRODUTTORI DEL BARBARESCO
LANGHE NEBBIOLO 2018
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
The Langhe Nebbiolo is made with hand-selected grapes from 100 hectares of vineyards owned by members of the Produttori's co-operative. This 2018 vintage is full-bodied with silky tannins, fresh acidity and notes of red cherry, star anise, and leather.
Dinner is done so let’s sit and have a nice chat about the lack of sports these days and looking forward to the NFL and maybe hockey playoffs. If Dad is a whisky fan, throw a curveball his way and see if he can guess what this excellent whisky is. Is it Scotch? Where is it from? Rated No. 1 in the world two years ago, this fabled Japanese whisky is nothing short of brilliant. One of the best selling whiskies in B.C., it has a huge following amongst whisky connoisseurs and a staple in any whisky fan’s collection.
NIKKA WHISKY
FROM THE BARREL
No. 1 Whisky of 2018 — 94 Points,

How old is Dad, 40, 50, 60? On this special day he deserves a special gift. What better gift than a vintage armagnac from his birth year! Can you afford it and does he deserve it? If the answer is yes, then these Chateau de Laubade gems are all the right answers. This distillery has been voted best in the world 9 years running in their category. Wrap it up special and show him what he means to you.
