OUR PICKS
Barone di Valforte
Pecorino 2019
90 Points, Gismondi on Wine
Named after the Italian word for sheep — “Pecora”— that often feed off these golden coloured grapes, this white opens with aromas of wild honey, citrus and floral notes. The palate is structured with light honeysuckle, pear, apricot and a touch of tartness. Pair this wine with alfredo pasta or pecorino cheese.
Varias Genui Brut Nature Cava
91 Points, WineScores.ca
A beautiful blend of macabeu, xarel.lo and parallada, this is a young, fresh and cheerful cava. Aged for a minimum of 12 months before disgorgement, it makes for a great aperitif and pairs well with oysters, grilled seafood, spicy fish tacos or other white meats.
Chateau Dereszla
Tokaji Furmint 2018
Hungary’s Best Kept Secret!
A dry and fragrant white, this wine is made from Furmint, the same variety that yields Dereszla's Tokaji Aszu. The nose is very aromatic with a refreshing and structured palate of juicy pear, spicy apricot and lovely minerality. Enjoy this with grilled fish, fresh salads or as a patio sipper.
Celler de Capçanes
Mas Donis 2017
90 Points, WineScores
The nose of this Spanish red is quite aromatic with bright cherry, red berries, violet and a hint of spice. The palate is medium-bodied and complex with ripe fruits, vanilla and star anise, accompanied by soft, fine tannins. Pair this with grilled chicken, barbecued burgers and fresh salads.
