The Scully family, owners of Clonakilty Distillery, have been farming the southern tip of Ireland for 9 generations. Their farming knowledge and expertise has allowed them to grow their own heritage barley on the family farm near the Galley Head lighthouse on the Irish south coast. This excellent raw material produced is then turned into whisky distillate. The distillate is then left to mature in their warehouse cellar under the influence of maritime winds and sea air.
The pristine environment of the distillery lends to a perfect setting for maturation of whiskies. Homegrown heritage barley, crystal clear water and a maritime climate is a perfect combination of whisky production. While the distillery is waiting for their own whiskies to mature, they are selecting and blending Irish whiskies and maturing them in their own warehouses on the coast of Ireland. This proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, imparts a unique and influential maritime character to their whiskies, thus giving them a Clonakilty defined style.

The Clonakilty Distillery is blessed with a pristine natural environment, with prime land to grow barley, a crystal clear water source and salt sea air make a perfect setting for a maritime distillery. Sea mist, soft rain and ocean spray have showered the land for centuries, imparting a unique complexity to the soil that grows their local grains. The water used for their distilling is sourced from a single well on their farm. Clean, unspoiled water is pulled from deep within ancient rock formations, which naturally filters through multiple layers of sandstone and baryte.
The environment provides the perfect setting for a maritime distillery. The clean, fresh air of the Atlantic coast is unspoiled by human intervention and provides a perfect whisky ageing setting for their cellar. The warehouse is perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors will have a memorable experience when they leave with the taste of salt on their lips. The distillery is certified with sustainable corporate practices.

Clonakilty Distillery is owned by the Scully family, who have farmed the windswept coast of Ireland for 9 successive generations. Michael Scully came up with the bright idea to have a distillery in order to convert the excellent heritage barley into whisky and thus the idea of the Clonakilty Distillery was born. Padraic Coll heads the USA operations and is establishing Clonakilty in that country and Canada. Helen is the Gin expert and she puts her special touch to the style of the Minke Gin.
