The Winery

Situated in Châteauneuf-du-pape, Southern Rhone

The estate spans over 12 hectares made up of different plots planted towards the micro terroirs of Courthézon and also to the north of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Châteauneuf-du-pape terroir consists of round stones, which absorb heat during the day and provide heat to the plants at night. This essential element allows for ripeness and concentration of flavours in the grapes. The mistral winds also play an essential role in the health and vitality of their vineyards and character of their wines by keeping them dry and protecting them from mildew.

All strict vineyard management is done by hand, including the wine vinification process, which has given them the HVE certification, thus ensuring high management quality. Harvesting is done by hand and grapes are sorted and destemmed prior to vinification.

The People

In 2006, Philippe Kessler accomplished his aspiration of purchasing a wine estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, naming it Clef de Saint Thomas. With their background in viticulture and olive cultivation at Château Calissanne in Provence, Philippe and his wife Sophie embarked on a fresh journey in the Rhône Valley.

Presently, Sophie manages the estate in her capacity as both the proprietor and producer (Propriétaire-Récoltant) of the winery. Meanwhile, Thomas, an enthusiastic and dedicated student, ardently works to advance the fortunes of the two domains. Under Sophie's leadership, accompanied by her team, a novel generation of red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is crafted. These wines captivate with their remarkable grace and profound complexity.
