Chateau Dereszla

Chateau Dereszla

Chateau Dereszla is steeped in rich history when the first mention of the name occurred in 1406 as a storage cellar of wines collected for tax levies for the then king of Hungary. The estate changed hands for many centuries as it moved from Hungarian to Turkish to Austrian rulers until 1945. After WW II, it became part of a Hungarian Cooperative.

At the turn of the century, in 2000, the estate was purchased by the French d’Aulan family who quickly modernized and streamlined production to create world-renowned wines. Under this French ownership, the Chateau achieved international recognition and became renowned for their Tokaji Aszu wines. Modernization continued the evolution of the estate and it reached an important milestone when, in 2016, it became once again under Hungarian ownership.

The Henye winery was opened as part of the Dereszla group and dry wines and sparkling wines were introduced into the portfolio. Chateau Dereszla is now a vibrant, multi-dimensional winery that continues to achieve high quality and award-winning wines.

The Wines

The Winery

Situated in Tokaji, Hungary

Under the Dereszla winery property is a hidden, rich, historical treasure that dates back to Roman times. An intricate labyrinth of tunnels, which has been regenerated to its original condition, is more than 1 kilometer long and five levels below the Dereszla vineyards. This is where their vintage wines and aszu Tokaji wines are laid for aging. The Chateau Dereszla winery is the perfect combination of historical tradition and new, state of the art technologies.

In 2015, the Dereszla group opened the Henye Winery, which produces their dry wines and sparkling wine selections. The Henye Wine Bar was added in 2017 to host guests and events, thus launching the winery into Agritourism.

The People

In 2016, when the estate became part of Hungarian ownership, a dedicated team was put in place to maintain the high level of quality and commitment needed to keep Chateau Dereszla in International importance. Kalocsai László heads the team as director while two dedicated winemakers, Edit and István Bai, produce all the estate’s award winning wines. This long standing, all Hungarian team works towards the common goal of making Chateau Dereszla a world class winery.
