The beautiful wine estate San Fabiano Calcinaia is divided into two Chianti Classico subzones, Poggibonsi that produces the majority of the wines and Castellina in Chianti, where the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione vineyards are located in central Tuscany. The property was purchased in 1983 by the present owners, Guido Serio and his wife Isa, with the intention of producing quality wines. They immediately upgraded and modernized the winery and renewed the vineyards and wine cellars.

Carlo Ferrini, former Wine Enthusiast’s Winemaker of the Year, consults with the winemaking team. All wines are produced from estate-grown fruit. In 2009, the winery went into organic conversion and today all wines are certified organic. Their commitment to sustainable farming, grape production and vineyard management is an integral part of the winery philosophy. This is what makes San Fabiano Calcinaia one of the leading producers of Chianti Classico.

Situated in Tuscany, Italy

Situated in the hills of the beautiful Chianti Classico region, which stretches between Florence and Siena, is where San Fabiano Calcinaia produces their certified organic wines. The Chianti Classico region is one of the world’s most appraised regions for producing fine wines due to the excellent climate, terroir, altitude and historic winemaking skills. 

The estate and vineyards cover 165 hectares, situated in two subzones of Chianti Classico. The first zone is in Poggibonsi, where the location of their offices, winery and vineyards are situated. The second zone is in Castellina in Chianti, which includes 25% of their vineyards and the winery agritourism. In 2009, they began conversion to sustainable and organic farming. Today, their vineyards and wines are certified organic.

The People

In 1983, Guido Serio and his wife Isa purchased the property with the intention of converting the estate into a fine wine producing winery. The modernization of the estate vineyards and winery equipment began immediately and also a team of dedicated professionals were put in place to ensure this goal was achieved.

One of the most important team members is Carlo Ferrini, who was hired to consult with the wine making process. He was recognized by Wine Enthusiast as Winemaker of the Year. Quite a pedigree to have such a person oversee the production of wines. This dedicated team has put the San Fabiano wines into many countries of the world.
